OUR STORY
The recipe has not changed
Carlos Ríos and his wife Baudelia Martínez started their business out of necessity in 1939 in Zapotlán el Grande, a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. They began making chocolate in their kitchen and selling it door to door. Initially named "El Cometa," their company grew in popularity.
Over time, their various chocolate styles became regional favorites, with one standing out: the "Rey" (King) in its "Amargo" (Bitter) version. In 1969, they renamed the entire company to "Chocolate Rey Amargo" in honor of this beloved product.
